To enable students to demonstrate appropriate midwifery knowledge, attitude and skills in a clinical practice environment and to achieve the course objectives in alignment with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Midwife Standards for Practice through midwifery clinical placements.

Course learning outcomes
- Participate in safe and effective woman centred midwifery practice across the childbirth continuum in accordance with legislative frameworks and the NMBA National practice standards for the Midwife
- Participates in respectful professional partnerships within the healthcare team to optimise outcomes for women and their families in the context of a multicultural society
- Apply appropriate communication strategies to promote an optimal physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual environment for women and their families
- Use evidence-based research to inform and plan practice within contemporary Australian healthcare contexts
- Promote primary and public health in midwifery practice for women, their families and the community
- Evaluate own practice and its effect on women and others to improve quality of midwifery practice utilising critical reflection and analysis
- Document professional practice and learning experiences through an e-portfolio
