Course overview
This course will develop knowledge and understanding of women’s health across the lifespan in the context of midwifery practice. Content includes: Reproductive health, contraception, assisted reproductive technology, STI, BBV, fertility, family planning, health counselling and education, common gynecological presentation and procedures, Domestic Violence, teenage pregnancy, refugee health, Aboriginal women, FGM, LGBTIQ+, disability, women’s health screening, health promotion, equity and rights, gender disparity, feminism, and women’s rights.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate the role of the midwife with regard to sexual and reproductive health.
- Apply knowledge of the womans health needs across the lifespan.
- Discuss the need to provide safe and appropriate midwifery care for culturally and linguistically diverse and vulnerable women.
- Apply principles of health promotion and disease prevention for women.
- Explore common disruptions to women's health within the scope of midwifery practice.
- Critically analyse the impact of global gender disparity on women's health.
