Course overview

Students undertake a 6 week placement in a major teaching hospital.

Course learning outcomes

  • To practice and apply information synthesis and evaluation
  • To develop further skills in medical decision making
  • To assume greater responsibility for patient care
  • The Emergency Department experience should also be used to develop the following communication skills: Patients and relatives: Information transfer, reassurance, explanation of tests and procedures, preparation for tests and procedures
  • The Emergency Department experience should also be used to develop the following communication skills: Learning to work as part of a team
