Course overview

The course will provide comprehensive clinical training to a high level of competency in the practice of minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Course learning outcomes

  • Appreciate how to perform minimally invasive surgery techniques at a high level of competency under supervision.
  • Demonstrate operative techniques by using a high fidelity computerised virtual laparoscopic skills trainer with haptic feedback.
  • Be aware of the equipment and instrumentation used in minimally invasive surgery.
  • Understand how to review audio visual material on minimally invasive surgical cases.
  • Understand the emphasis of pre-operative patient assessments and counselling.
  • Understand the importance of post-operative case management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of suturing, surgical simulators, models and methods of virtual trainers and techniques in minimally invasive surgery.
