Course overview

The aim of this course is to introduce the student to the conduct of scientific research through participation in a research project to provide education and experience appropriate to employment in research positions or as a basis for further study towards higher research degrees. Students will carry out supervised research appropriate to the discipline in which they conduct their project.

Course learning outcomes

  • Plan, coordinate and undertake scientific research and hence an appreciation of scientific method
  • Demonstrate enhanced critical thinking and decision making
  • Present research data in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrate an understanding of ethical standards and responsible practice as applied to scientific research
  • Display the research and laboratory skills necessary to work independently as well as collaboratively.
