Course overview
The aim of this course is to apply specialised diagnostic theory and procedures to organ and systems based pathology. Collection and cytological analysis of gynaecological smears, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urinary tract cytology, fine needle aspiration cytology. Theory and application of transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Diagnostic electron microscopy. Procedures for the preparation of muscle, nerve and bone for histopathological assessment. Principles and uses of immunohistochemistry. Pathology of urinary system, neuro-muscular pathology. Principles of image analysis and morphometry.

- Relate the use of specialised procedures to the histopathological diagnosis of disease
- Develop and critically assess innovative histopathological techniques
- Explain the alterations to normal tissue structure which occur in various disease states affecting particular body systems.
