Course overview

Building on the skills and knowledge gained in previous courses, students develop strategic communication leadership knowledge and advanced planning skills. Students undertake an industry internship or industry-focused project, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to become an effective and persuasive strategic communication leader. Students also examine the relationship between effective leadership and communication styles, and the role of the strategic communication professional in leadership communication.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate and critically reflect on knowledge of industry trends, career paths and workplace leadership practices in strategic communication
  • Apply work-integrated learning principles and professional development best-practice to engage with contemporary industry challenges, employment opportunities and career planning in strategic communication sectors and roles
  • Apply knowledge of strategic communication leadership in industry settings and environments, and communicate professionally and ethically through a range of genres, contexts, and outputs relevant to the sector.
  • Critically assess, consolidate and synthesise academic and industry learning.
  • Critically form and reflect on personalised learning objectives and achievable career plans for ongoing professional development.
