Course overview

This course employs a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of social media management principles and develop real-world skills. Through hands-on learning experience, students will improve their ability to effectively communicate and promote various brands and identities like businesses, charities, sports teams, and personal brands, within the rapidly evolving media landscape. Students will learn about digital content strategy, planning and evaluating digital communication, and how to use and interpret social media analytics. They will also gain practical experience in digital content creation and create a portfolio of practical media work.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of social media management in a rapidly changing media environment
  • Apply theories of social media and digital promotion to the analysis of current industry norms, practices, media texts, and platforms
  • Apply and evaluate digital content strategy and use and interpret social media analytics
  • Produce a portfolio of digital content, and critically evaluate your own content production
