Course overview

This course prepares final-year students for professional careers in web design by enhancing their portfolios and online presence while providing hands-on experience working collaboratively on real-world client projects. Students will refine their skills in client engagement, project management, and the use of industry-standard tools and technologies. They will also gain insights into building a personal brand, exploring business models, and preparing for various career paths, including freelance work and entrepreneurship. Student will complete the course with advanced skills in web design and a comprehensive understanding of the industry.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critique and enhance a professional online presence, including a portfolio, resume and social media business profile, to effectively present work to potential employers and clients
  • Contextualise and implement various career strategies in web design, including studio work, freelancing, and entrepreneurship, understanding different business models, the importance of ABNs, and strategies for successful freelance work
  • Collaborate in small teams to address client briefs within specified timeframes, demonstrating advanced project management skills and proficiency in project management software, and successfully achieving project outcomes in team settings
  • Coordinate and manage real-world client projects, conducting client meetings and managing relationships, while applying industry-standard tools and techniques to realise client briefs and ensure successful project delivery
