Course overview

Building on the concepts and skills acquired in Introduction to Film and Television, the course introduces students to the key elements, techniques and practices of factual production as it applies to short form documentary film.

Course learning outcomes

  • Conceptualise, research and develop engaging documentary films.
  • Develop and reflect on your voice as a creative nonfiction storyteller
  • Critically examine the history, ethics, and styles of different types of documentaries
  • Employ audiovisual techniques that contribute to making an engaging documentary
  • Reflect on documentary’s capacity for impact and its role in society within the context of your film/s.
