Course overview

This course introduces students to foundational concepts and practical skills in web design, covering the history and evolution of the web, essential visual design principles, and core technologies such as HTML, CSS, responsive design and coding libraries. Students will learn to source and edit digital assets, ensure web accessibility, and gain an introduction to Content Management Systems, preparing them to create visually appealing and accessible websites.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse the history and evolution of the web by examining key developments and their impact on society, demonstrating an understanding of how past innovations influence modern web technologies

  • Apply basic web design visual and accessibility principles to create aesthetically pleasing and accessible user-friendly web pages
  • Demonstrate basic skills in content management systems, to build and manage a basic website
