Course overview
This is an advanced course in approximation techniques for solving complex dynamical systems.
Course learning outcomes
- Recall, and be able to explain the assumptions underpinning, a range of mathematical models of complex systems (e.g., chemical reactions, nonlinear oscillators, heat transfer / diffusion, fluid flows)
- Contextualise mathematical models to explain subjective choices in modelling approach and / or approximation method
- Apply theory and techniques from the course to derive asymptotic solutions of complex mathematical models
- Interpret results to communicate qualitative solution behaviour
