Course overview
The course introduces the real number system as the unique complete ordered field and moves on to a rigorous development of the core topics of mathematical analysis in the setting of the real line. At the same time, the course is an introduction to rigorous mathematics and develops learners’ skills in creating and working with careful mathematical arguments.

Course learning outcomes
- Describe the fundamental properties of the real numbers that underpin the formal development of real analysis
- Demonstrate an understanding of the theory of sequences and series, continuity, differentiation, and integration
- Demonstrate skills in constructing rigorous mathematical arguments
- Apply the theory in the course to solve a variety of problems at an appropriate level of difficulty
- Demonstrate skills in communicating mathematics
