Course overview
This course will develop a student's skills in the critical evaluation and basic methodologies of research in health science, and to discuss commonly used statistical tests. In this course students will develop their knowledge of epidemiology, basic research designs and research ethics then employ these skills to critically evaluate published research. Students will also gain a basic understanding of descriptive and commonly used inferential statistics. They will apply these skills in the preparation of a submission of a research proposal to an ethics committee.
Course learning outcomes
- To gain an understanding of the research process as it may be applied to pharmacy and medical practice.
- To gain an understanding of experimental design and statistical tests.
- To apply knowledge of the research process and statistical analysis to the evaluation of pharmacy and medical research literature.
