Course overview

The aim of Mathematics Clinic 1 and Mathematics Clinic 2 is to give students the experience of working in a team on a year-long mathematics project with an industry partner. Teams will start with a project brief prepared by their industry partner, work with the industry partner and academic mentors to refine the problem definition, develop mathematical formulations of the problem, work on solving the problem, develop software if appropriate, and present their results with presentations and reports. Mathematics Clinic 1 focusses on formulation of the problem and identification of suitable solution techniques. Mathematics Clinic 2 builds on the work done in Clinic 1 to apply the solution techniques identified in Clinic 1, then develop and refine solutions to the problem.
