Course overview
This course will promote knowledge and appreciation of geometry, from Euclid's Elements to projective and non-Euclidean geometry. Content includes: Axioms and postulates of Greek geometry; Straightedge and compass constructions; Coordinate geometry; Vectors and Euclidean spaces; Perspective and projective planes; Theorems of Pappus and Desargues; Non-Euclidean geometry.
Course learning outcomes
- Explain the basis of the axioms and postulates of Euclid.
- Construct geometric objects using straightedge and compass.
- Use coordinate systems to solve problems in geometry.
- Demonstrate effectiveness of projective geometry in the proof of results.
