Course overview

This course surveys various topics in geometry to give a wide overview of geometric concepts and emphasising the role of proof in mathematics. The course material is largely independent of other fields such as algebra and calculus, and so it is suitable for those from a variety of backgrounds, particularly future mathematics educators, but also for those in mathematics programs, or from other areas, giving learners experience of the use of logical and deductive techniques.

  • Classic Plane Euclidean Geometry
  • Coordinate Geometry
  • Solid Geometry
  • Non-Euclidean Geometry And The Poincare Model

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of concepts and theorems from geometry
  • Prove results in elementary geometry
  • Collaborate with others in solving problems
  • Demonstrate mathematical communication skills
