Course overview

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the opportunities and complexities of the property market. By examining the unique characteristics of property, including its legal, physical, and locational aspects, students will gain a foundational understanding of how these factors influence property-related decisions. The course will primarily focus on the perspective of the property consumer—individuals and organizations that use, buy, sell, rent, invest in, and speculate with property—enabling students to evaluate and navigate the property market effectively.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply key practical and legislative principles to scenarios involving the buying, selling, leasing, management, development and investment of real property
  • Analyse market, investment and development opportunities for real property using basic property economics and valuation concepts
  • Evaluate legal, physical, economic and social factors that influence real property decisions
  • Identify, collect, interpret and present relevant primary and secondary data to support decisions about real property
  • Apply Business Enterprise Skills in the Property discipline at a foundation level: i) problem solving, ii) written communication, and iii) oral communication
