Course overview

This advanced course develops students understanding of the global spread of modernism and postmodernism as literary movements in the twentieth century and beyond. By closely studying representative texts from several featured national formations (which may include English, Irish, American, Australian, South African, and others), the course will equip students with the more advanced skills necessary for sophisticated and contextualised literary analysis, appreciation and knowledge building. Fundamental theoretical, technical, and interpretive concepts will be packaged in lively classroom exercises and assessments to advance students awareness of the rich traditions of modernist and postmodernist literary expression in English.
