Course overview
This intermediate survey course advances students skills in analysing and interpreting some of the major forms of poetry in English. By closely studying several specimen texts from three featured genres of poetic discourse taken from a variety of national locations (which may include: English, Irish, American, Australian, South African, and others) the course will equip students with the more advanced skills necessary for sophisticated literary analysis, appreciation and knowledge building. Fundamental theoretical, technical, and interpretive concepts will be packaged in lively classroom exercises and assessments to advance students awareness of the rich traditions of poetic expression in English.
