Course overview
This course will develop students' understandings of language policy, its analysis, development and impact in diverse contexts. In this course, students will draw upon understandings of language, ideology and diverse orientations to critically analyse language and literacy policies in diverse contexts, their impact and consequences. They will develop understandings of policy making processes and enactment, and develop a language policy to address a particular aspect of practice in a particular context.
Course learning outcomes
- critically examine the underlying view of language embedded in language policies in different contexts.
- analyse critically the ideological framing of language policy and it's development.
- investigate the social, political and economic value and consequences of language policy for individuals and communities.
- research and develop a language policy for a particular context.
