Course overview

This innovative capstone course provides students with a unique opportunity to collaborate with academic staff, other students and members of the community to develop creative technology-driven legal solutions to contemporary social problems. The course challenges students to think critically and creatively, and draw on the research skills, legal knowledge and technological competencies they have developed throughout their degree and synthesise that experience into practical, forward-thinking solutions to real-world problems with legal dimensions.

Course learning outcomes

  • Analyse the legal dimensions of a social challenge using domestic and international law, social policies, and theories of law
  • Propose and evaluate socio-legal solutions to social challenges
  • Design and deliver presentations and discussions aimed at legal and non-legal audiences, that examine socio-legal problems and explore solutions from multiple perspectives
  • Plan and produce a written research project report that synthesises a broad range of relevant legal and cross-disciplinary scholarly resources and social policies and proposes practical solutions to a social problem
