Course overview
This course will extend students' proficiency in spoken and written Italian at a developed level and introduce a critical study of Italian literary texts and their relevance to intercultural contexts. Students in this course will interact with vocabulary and structures related to a range of text types, themes and topics at a developed level. Students will further develop grammatical concepts and socio-cultural knowledge with a focus on language in use. Students will also reflect on contemporary Italian culture and society with a focus on Italian immigration and explore the intercultural aspects of cultural representations drawn from a selection of modern Italian texts.
Course learning outcomes
- speak and write independently in Italian with increasing accuracy and fluency in the range of contexts covered
- display linguistic and cultural sensitivity in social interactions in Italian
- develop a broad understanding of grammatical and sociolinguistic concepts relating to the topics and uses of Italian
