Course overview

This course aims to provide a student with an advanced and in-depth experience in reflexive and entrepreneurial journalism practice through a range of production exercises and projects. Focusing on areas such as science, sports, travel and arts & culture journalism, the course will provide students with industry relevant projects, with the aim of producing industry standard journalism work across a range of platforms.

Course learning outcomes

  • Produce an industry standard piece of journalism in written, audio and/or visual form
  • Demonstrate the ability to research and plan a polished piece of journalism in a specific time- period
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the ethical and legal guidelines and requirements involved in the production of a news story
  • Reflect on the production process the incorporating relevant concepts and ideas
  • Understand the nature of different platforms and technologies in the production and publications of news media and be able to engage with said platforms
