Course overview

In building on the skills and knowledge gained in Introduction to Broadcasting, this course aims to develop industry standard knowledge and skills in sourcing, researching, interviewing, editing and producing audio stories for news and current affairs bulletins, radio studio production and podcast storytelling and production. Students will work individually and to a deadline, using industry standard equipment and software. They will also identify and analyse the legal and ethical obligations associated with broadcast journalism and podcasting and produce work that demonstrates diversity and inclusivity.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically interpret current affairs issues reported and discussed in Australian and international journalistic and academic publications and programs
  • Source original audio stories for different formats and platforms
  • Apply developed skills in writing for radio/audio for news, current affairs and podcasting, including teamwork
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using technology associated with radio editing and production
  • Identify and comply with legal and ethical obligations in broadcast journalism
