Course overview

This course draws upon software engineering principles, practices and professional skills to produce developed and deployed, robust and running software and relevant documentation requested by the workplace, while working in a project team. In this third course of three comprising the capstone project, students will contextualise their knowledge and skills from previous courses to produce a tested and working solution to a problem from the workplace. Through this approach, students will enhance their proficiency in problem solving, programming, project management, team organisation, stakeholder management, conducting tests, deployments and demonstrations as well as handover of appropriate documentation. Students will research industry advancements and academic literature and report on a topic related to the project. The capstone project as a whole will equip students for their professional careers.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate a complete running project solution, communicating the value of your outcome for the client
  • Justify the success of the project and final deliverables in terms of quality, robustness and alignment with client requirements and expectations, considering individual contributions and key learnings to enhance future project outcomes
  • Contribute to project development, overall quality and completion/handover as part of a team
  • Critically review and evaluate complex information and ideas, industry advancements and/or academic research on a topic related to the project
  • Apply discipline knowledge and skills and project management techniques to produce high quality deliverables within a specific context
  • Prepare comprehensive solution documentation and facilitate the handover process, ensuring clarity and completeness and effective communication with the project client
  • Consider the cultural sensitivities and any ethical aspects of the project and justify the decisions made
