Course overview

To provide students with an understanding of design theory and a broad knowledge of the design processes required to produce quality business documents as well as an appreciation of the legal issues associated with desktop publishing.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically discuss the legal issues associated with business documents within desktop publishing applications
  • Demonstrate the theory of document design and layout by designing a range of business documents
  • Provide a critical analysis of business document design and layout
  • Make proficient use of a desktop publishing software application and have a knowledge of the required associated hardware
  • Engage audiences and enhance business communication through a combination of imagery and text throughout business documents and management processes
  • Analyse and apply the theory of colour as it relates to corporate identity
  • Investigate a business' current and future imaging and printing needs and build this into their document design
