Course overview

The aim of this course is to introduce the principal elements of cyber security from an organisational and technical perspective. In this course, students will gain skills and knowledge in the following:

-core security principles including confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA)

-roles and responsibilities of a cyber security professional

-principles of symmetric and asymmetric cryptography

-attack models, threat lifecycles, social engineering, malware, denial of service, insider attacks

-Australian Computer Society (ACS) code of conduct

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the core principles of cyber security.
  • Identify and discuss the skills required for the various roles in the cyber security profession.
  • Recognise a range of contemporary cyber security threats.
  • Distinguish and communicate the potential impact of cyber security threats within an organisational context.
