Course overview

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively apply Agile development principles using Scrum, along with Lean UX practices, to enhance the efficiency, collaboration, and user-centricity of software development projects. Participants will learn how to utilise Scrum practices and roles, as well as integrate Lean UX methodologies to streamline the design and development process. Students will also learn how to apply ethical frameworks and professional standards to project decisions and navigate difficult stakeholder interactions using professional communication and conflict management strategies. The course draws on project management principles to support the delivery of high-quality products that meet user needs and business objectives.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply Agile and Scrum methodologies to plan, execute, and iteratively deliver a team-based IT project, including backlog management, sprint planning, and retrospective analysis.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Agile tools and practices, including story writing, estimation, velocity tracking, and stakeholder communication within the Scrum framework.
  • Design user experiences using Lean UX principles, incorporating iterative feedback and minimal viable product (MVP) thinking to drive customer-focused outcomes.
  • Employ established UX methods such as empathy mapping, persona creation, and usability evaluation to create accessible and effective user-centred designs.
  • Apply ethical frameworks and professional standards to assess project decisions involving user privacy, dark patterns, accessibility, and informed consent.
  • Manage difficult stakeholder interactions, including clients and team members, by applying professional communication strategies, conflict resolution techniques, and emotional regulation practices in a project setting.
