Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop students' understanding and application of Indigenous approaches in the arts, literature, film, video and new media. Students will examine Indigenous pedagogies, review case studies of diverse Indigenous models within Australia and develop a comparative analysis of historical and contemporary models including international Indigenous perspectives.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explore ways that Indigenous communities and individuals develop strategies for projects that enrich culture and sustain creativity.
  • Identify community development and capacity building, informed by Indigenous knowledge and world views
  • Critique proposed models of community building and capacity building in terms of their ability to support the aspirations of Indigenous communities and the celebration of culture.
  • Critically compare and evaluate Indigenous pedagogies in the arts, literature, film and new media with international Indigenous peoples communities and organisations.
