Course overview

To develop students knowledge of Aboriginal storytelling through a lens of self and subjectivity as a method of cultural appreciation and ethical engagement with media. Students will understand the value of the sovereign being through writing the self in culture building on knowledge from the first level course, Aboriginal Cultures.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify elements of the Aboriginal methodology of storytelling
  • Explain the value of subjectivity in the media as it relates to Aboriginal culture
  • Demonstrate an understanding of historical and cultural threats to Aboriginal sovereignty
  • Synthesise the methodology of Aboriginal storytelling as meaning making in media
