Course overview

To develop students' knowledge of diversity of the contemporary social and political situations in Australia which impact on Aboriginal peoples.

Course learning outcomes

  • Recognise the diversity of the social and political situations in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples live.
  • Describe the ways in which global situations have influenced the history of Australian race relations.
  • Explain the impact of racism on Aboriginal people, and intersections with class and gender inequalities.
  • Account for the different needs and perspectives as expressed by Aboriginal groups on current issues.
