Course overview

To develop introductory knowledge and understanding of the colonisation of Aboriginal Australia, the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and the effects of legislation relevant to Aboriginal people.

Course learning outcomes

  • analyse the historical processes which resulted in dispossession for Aboriginal people
  • examine the impact of government policies and legislation on Aboriginal People
  • describe Aboriginal perspectives on government policy and legislation.
  • discuss the role of historiography (both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal) in constructing knowledge about the Australian past since 1788.
