Course overview

To develop students' knowledge of traditional Aboriginal cultures as they developed over time in a variety of ecological situations. Students will develop a broad understanding of Aboriginal Australian social, economic and political systems by learning about Aboriginal Australian social, economic and political systems.

Course learning outcomes

  • Identify basic structures, values and features of Aboriginal societies
  • Identify and explain a variety of ecological and historical factors in shaping the diversity of Aboriginal cultures in Australia
  • Demonstrate understanding of Aboriginal concepts related to land, law, relationships, language, art, stories and song
  • Demonstrate the capacity to communicate an informed awareness, self-reflection and understanding of the ethical requirements of working in Aboriginal studies across various disciplines
