Course overview
Students will develop a framework for analysing opportunities and risks in a global business environment, by examining the interaction of the political, economic, and cultural forces that shape production, trade flows and other variables that create the global landscape of business. The course also illustrates how globalisation influences strategy and performance within organisations and examines organisation-level decisions in the context of global forces. This course covers a range of fundamental topics about international business environment, including: Globalisation and Internationalisation, International Trade and Investment, Cultural Issues in International Business, Political and legal systems, Government intervention, Emerging Markets, Global Strategic Structure and International Entry Strategy.
Course learning outcomes
- Examine the structure and features of the global marketplace and its global institutions.
- Compare and contrast how the global business environment affects the operations and strategies of international business and evaluate their relationship.
- Critically evaluate the various means of international engagement and decision making in international business using international business resources, theories and principles.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills: i) Problem Solving (advanced level); ii) Teamwork (intermediate level); iii) Ethical Awareness (advanced level); iv) Written Communication (advanced level); and v) International Perspective (foundation, intermediate and advanced levels).
