Course overview
This course aims to investigate contemporary issues impacting the health and wellbeing of youth and adolescents. The course explores and critically analyses contextual influences and describes educational strategies and practices to empower informed choices, minimise harm and promote wellbeing. The course will develop capabilities to critically appraise the impact of social, cultural, and contextual influences on lifestyle choices and practices associated with alcohol and drug use, sexual health, relationships, and mental health. The course embeds opportunity to demonstrate teaching for effective learning, fostering a harm minimisation approach and reflecting strategies to enhance protective behaviours, resilience, informed and ethical decision making, personal and social responsibility. These strategies are aligned to prepare graduates to effectively teach health content to youth and adolescents in education settings.

- Locate and identify key information and analyse contemporary trends in relation to alcohol, drugs, mental and sexual health
- Critically evaluate factors that influence the selection of lifestyle choices
- Investigate and deliver contemporary approaches to teaching and learning in sexual health, drug education and personal well-being
- Demonstrate confidence and competence in structuring educational experiences to facilitate learning in health education
