Course overview
This course will provide students with an understanding of the neural, physiological, mechanical and cognitive bases of controlling movement. Contents include: Motor control issues and concepts. Neural and muscular physiological basis of movement. Central and peripheral nervous system organisation and function for learning, memory, sensory-perception and movement control. Features and mechanisms of joint movement as well as postural, mobility and upper-limb control. Contemporary theories and their application for analysing, describing and explaining motor behaviour. Movement perturbations, age related changes and disorders, analysis of movement and motor control using a range of techniques (eg. video analysis, EMG and strength testing).
