Course overview

This course develops students advanced knowledge of effective performance and rewards management systems in achieving organisational goals. Performance and rewards management are two essential and challenging facets of managing people in organisations. The course critically examines current theory and practice and analyses the myriad performance and reward issues that confront today's managers and addresses practical solutions to those issues. The course uses theory and research to identify practical insights into systems for assessing employee performance and linking performance to pay outcomes. It also takes tangible and intangible rewards into account within a diverse context to achieve strategic organisational outcomes. Students are assessed through reflection, contribution, presentation and report.

Course learning outcomes

  • Develop a clear understanding of performance and compensation management practices in organisations and their role in the context of organisational and HR strategy in the global business environment with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a reflection, contribution, presentation and report
  • Critically examine the relationship between employee behaviour and different types of performance and rewards systems with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a reflection, contribution, presentation and report
  • Critically evaluate an existing performance and compensation management system in an organisation and formulate recommendations designed to improve employee and organisational performance with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a reflection, contribution, presentation and report
  • Demonstrate skills in problem solving and written and oral communication with readings and seminar activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a reflection, contribution, presentation and report
