Course overview
The course provides students with an understanding of the current theory, processes and practice of strategic staffing, recruitment and selection in organisations, and provides opportunities to develop and practice relevant recruitment and selection skills. This course will critically examine the social, legal, and administrative issues associated with the recruitment, selection and induction of individuals by organisations. Students will gain knowledge and skills in workforce planning, job analysis, channels and methods of recruitment, shortlisting, selection processes and onboarding practices.
Course learning outcomes
- Undertake workforce planning recognising external and internal workforce conditions.
- Plan and conduct a job analysis to develop a job description and specification.
- Critically evaluate internal and external methods of recruitment and selection, recognising social, legal, ethical and business issues and changing workforce demographics and technology.
- Plan, manage, implement and evaluate appropriate recruitment and selection and onboarding strategies for an organisation.
- Develop practical skills in developing selection criteria, conduct of structured interviews, assessing candidates, making final hiring decision and evaluating organisational effectiveness of staffing systems.
- Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Human Resource Management discipline: i) Self-Management (intermediate level); ii) Problem Solving (intermediate level); iii) Written Communication (intermediate level.
