Course overview

This course develops students knowledge about the central themes and diverse views within strategic human resource management (HRM) and skills in identifying appropriate strategic HRM responses to organisational challenges. Many organisations are undertaking all sorts of changes that require the adoption of new work practices and new approaches to decision-making and performance management. HR people have been leaders in identifying the organisation's particular challenges and in finding and implementing solutions. Some organisations are struggling to find sufficient employees. This course is concerned with broader questions, such as: what sort of training and development do we want What skills are we looking for Students are assessed through an essay, a presentation and report.
