Course overview
This course provides students with an understanding of the current theory, processes and practices of recruitment and selection in organisations, equipping them with a working knowledge of the recruitment and selection literature and providing opportunities to develop and practice relevant recruitment and selection skills. For many HR generalists, recruitment and selection is a big part of their day-to-day work. For many CEOs, finding the right people is crucial to organisational success. This course is aimed at developing essential knowledge needed for professional practice. In this course, emphasis is placed on understanding the decisions that practitioners need to make when recruiting and selecting so that students can choose the right approach for the situation they are in. Students are assessed through a critical analysis and project.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically examine recruitment and selection strategies and workforce planning with readings and class activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a critical analysis and project

- Critically evaluate internal and external methods of recruitment and selection, recognising social, legal, ethical and business issues and changing workforce demographics and technology with readings and class activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a critical analysis and project
- Plan, manage, implement and evaluate appropriate recruitment and selection strategies for an organisation with readings and class activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a critical analysis and project
- Develop practical skills in developing selection criteria, evaluating resumes, conduct of structured interviews, assessing candidates, making final hiring decisions and evaluating organisational effectiveness of recruitment and selection systems with readings and class activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a critical analysis and project
- Demonstrate skills in self-management, problem solving and written communication with readings and class activities around the topics by completing the core requirements of this CLO in a critical analysis and project
