Course overview

This course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to design, implement, and evaluate performance management (PM) and compensation management (CM) systems that support organisational strategy and effectiveness. Students will examine and evaluate key appraisal methods, performance alignment practices, and rewards systems, and apply relevant theories to analyse real-world PM and CM challenges. The course emphasises strategic integration, equity, and effectiveness in performance & compensation decisions.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate and apply performance appraisal (PA) methods that align with organisational goals, identify appropriate performance dimensions, and develop measurable goals (KPIs) to support effective performance.
  • Analyse and compare efficacy of traditional pay systems and performance-based pay models.
  • Critically assess compensation system issues and recommend strategically aligned rewards that ensure internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Apply relevant theoretical frameworks to analyse and interpret performance and compensation challenges in contemporary organisations.
  • Integrate performance and compensation strategies to support strategic alignment and enhance organisational effectiveness.
