Course overview

The course aims to prepare students for managerial careers within the tourism and hospitality sectors, focusing on the management of business operations through the lens of key departments including marketing, finance, human resource management, risk and logistics. It is designed to develop students working knowledge of the industry and the operating tasks involved in managing tourism and hospitality businesses.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the role and key operational functions of tourism and hospitality organisations, and challenges and demands facing managers
  • Analyse the performance of key operations in tourism and hospitality firms -including risk, logistics, marketing and HR
  • Develop and interpret key financial statements and performance indicators to support managerial decision making for tourism and hospitality firms
  • Analyse internal and external factors in order to make evidence based managerial decisions
  • Discuss how sustainability practices in tourism and hospitality firms affect the triple bottom line of profit, people and environment
