Course overview

This course develops students’ understanding of the link between the physical environment and event outcomes for a range of stakeholders including businesses and consumers. Applying concepts from psychology and marketing, and using an environmental management lens, students evaluate how event experiences are shaped by physical settings within a range of spatial scales. The course emphasises the creation of diversity in cultural venues and the role of venues in urban development.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply concepts from psychology, marketing, and environmental management to critically analyse how physical environments influence event experiences and diversity in cultural venues
  • Critically evaluate the role of servicescape in shaping service quality perceptions and stakeholder relationships across different spatial scales and propose innovative opportunities that demonstrate an understanding of how these attributes impact organisational performance outcomes
  • Critically assess the use of design as a communication strategy in event and venue contexts
  • Evaluate the role of venues in urban development and their contribution to cultural and economic outcomes
