Course overview

The aim of this course is to enable students to apply the theoretical underpinnings of event management to the professional practice in event management. Event stakeholders; event experience and visitor behaviour; impacts of events; and event strategic planning including event design, financial and human resources management, event operations, legal and risk management and evaluation.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the impacts of events on host societies.
  • Describe the diversity of events and the way they operate.
  • Analyse the role of stakeholders in contributing to successful events.
  • Discuss the unique characteristics of event experience that explain event visitor behaviour.
  • Discuss key concepts in event studies for the development of effective event practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Tourism, Event and Hospitality Management discipline: i) Self-Management (foundation level); and ii) Problem Solving (foundation level).
