Course overview

The aim of this course is to equip students with the skills to maximise the benefits derived from hosting events while also providing them with a comprehensive understanding of utilising events as effective strategies for driving changes. Eventful cities; Event leveraging; Event portfolio; Placemaking; Events for sustainable communities; Business events; Event sponsorship; Event fundraising; Marketing events; Event media management; Event bidding; Event legacies and Sustainable events.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss approaches used by different sectors to leverage events.
  • Identify the diverse ways in which various sectors engage with events.
  • Discuss sustainability and ethical issues in event management.
  • Analyse real-world examples to illustrate the successful use of events for fostering positive changes.
  • Propose strategies necessary for achieving successful and sustainable outcomes through events.
  • Demonstrate Business Enterprise Skills in the context of the Tourism and Event Management discipline: i) Teamwork (Foundation level); ii) Written Communication (intermediate level); and iii) Oral Communication (intermediate level).
