Course overview

In this course, students will explore the ways food, wine and festivals interact with special interest tourism, by examining emerging issues and practices in the context of creative tourism and entrepreneurship. Students will investigate the meanings of food and wine in cultural contexts and will analyse trends in the creative industries sector to develop an evidence-based proposal for a new tourism experience.

Course learning outcomes

  • Discuss and assess the ways in which the tourism industry uses food, wine, drink and festivals as a type of special interest tourism by exploring various emerging issues and practices in the context of creative tourism and entrepreneurship
  • Critique multiple contexts and theories of festivals, food and wine tourism from a creative industries perspective
  • Analyse and evaluate emerging theories of tourist markets, products and services offered by the food, wine and festival industries
