Course overview
This course focuses on the fundamental managerial knowledge and skills which festival managers are expected to master as well as addressing current socio-political and economic challenges influencing the industry. The course examines all areas necessary for the successful delivery of festivals including the financial planning required to realise the program, legal requirements especially those relating to charitable status, relationships with key stakeholders and funders, fundraising, operational management and strategic development and marketing. Successful festival delivery is dependent on rigorous and well-planned operations management as a backbone.

Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the operation and administrative systems that support festivals.
- Critically analyse contemporary issues in festival operations, applying research skills to identify and address key challenges in festival management.
- Evaluate real-life festivals using festival management theories to solve operational issues and ensure long-term financial sustainability.
- Apply knowledge of festival management, including program design, budgeting, funding strategies, and delivery planning, to propose a comprehensive festival plan.
- Effectively communicate and justify festival management and execution strategies to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the festival’s goals.
