Course overview

The course aims to prepare students for managerial careers within the hospitality industry, focusing on the management of business operations through the lens of key departments including marketing, finance, human resource management, risk and logistics. It is designed to develop students working knowledge of the hospitality industry and the operating tasks involved in managing hospitality businesses.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the role and key operational functions of hospitality organisations, and challenges and demands facing managers in hospitality firms
  • Analyse the performance of key operations in hospitality firms -including risk, logistics, marketing and HR
  • Develop and interpret key financial statements and performance indicators to support managerial decision making
  • Analyse internal and external factors to make evidence-based managerial decisions
  • Discuss how sustainability practices in hospitality firms affect the triple bottom line of profit, people and environment
