Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop and apply advanced knowledge and principles of exercise, strength and conditioning in physiotherapy practice. Current concepts in use of exercise and physical activity for health, well-being and rehabilitation; advanced use of exercise physiology principles for screening, injury prevention and rehabilitation across diverse clinical populations; and advanced use of strength and conditioning principles for optimising physical performance.

Course learning outcomes

  • Critically analyse the role of exercise/physical activity across the lifespan and in clinical populations
  • Apply advanced knowledge of exercise physiology principles to assess strength and fitness capacity in clients with diverse clinical conditions
  • Apply advanced knowledge of exercise physiology and education principles to design, deliver, monitor and progress an evidence-based, individualized exercise program in clients with diverse clinical conditions
  • Apply advanced knowledge of exercise physiology and education principles and skills to optimise physical performance
  • Recognise the role of the physiotherapist in the health care team and/or with other stakeholders, including identifying the need for appropriate communication with or referral to other professionals.
